When I first started training with Angus, my top three goals were focused on diet, weight loss, and toning. Coming from a high-stress job, I needed a structured approach to manage my weight and overall health. I was particularly concerned with developing a sustainable eating plan that would complement my training efforts and help me shed excess weight while toning my body. These goals were critical for me as I sought to counteract the negative physical effects of stress and build a healthier lifestyle. One of the most significant things I learned during my time with Angus was the importance of proper technique, particularly in weightlifting. Angus was meticulous about ensuring my posture was correct, especially during heavy lifts. This focus on technique not only improved my performance but also helped prevent injuries. Additionally, I gained valuable insights into how to balance my diet with my fitness goals, understanding the types of foods that would fuel my workouts effectively and prevent snacking at night. Lastly, Angus instilled in me the importance of mindset—approaching each session with determination and the right attitude. Working with Angus led to noticeable fat loss and muscle gain, though I didn’t achieve as much as I had hoped due to needing to end our sessions early because of a job change. Despite this, I saw positive changes in my body composition, with my clothes fitting better and a slight increase in muscle definition. My overall mood and energy levels also improved, which I attribute to both the physical activity and the healthier lifestyle Angus helped me cultivate. I started with Angus after only participating in group fitness classes for years. Working with Angus has helped me achieve my goals of getting stronger, more muscle definition and shape, and becoming confident in the weights room, as an older adult. When I started I had an old shoulder injury that I was constantly taking care of. Now after training and the proper pre workout exercises it has completely gone. His expertise, encouragement and approach has helped me become more confident and I look forward to my workout days. When I first started, I had two main goals: #1 is to lose weight. #2 is to build some muscles and look healthy and attractive. As I've continued with Angus, I've surprised myself with an additional goal, to see just how far I can go, and how strong I can get. Learning to trust my body and its capabilities has been a huge learning curve for me, and Angus balances that perfectly with pushing me to go a bit harder, or reigning me back when I get a bit too eager. I've noticed a massive improvement to all of my techniques since working with Angus, even the basic exercises like squats or planks. And I've noticed these improvements even through my day to day life - posture, balance etc. And finally, Angus' take on managing stress, not 'overfilling' the stress cup whether it's physical, mental or emotional, is a lesson I will be using and passing on for the rest of my life. My physical strength and stamina is definitely where I have seen the biggest improvement, 12 months ago I would never have believed I'd be doing the things I can do now. Previously one of calf muscles would cramp in the middle of the night, a couple times a month; since working with Angus, this hasn't been an issue at all. Overall, my mind/body relationship has never been better and my self-positivity has skyrocketed over the last year. Being able to speak to Angus openly about these things has been a big part of this journey, and not only taught me how to push through that final stretch, but also feel less guilty about taking a much needed rest. I did not think I would be able to stick with a gym routine, I would hurt or embarrass myself, or it'd be a waste of time with no results. Angus places a good emphasis on proper technique and gym practices. He also takes a moment to celebrate milestones and success - but he doesn't see shortcomings as failure; only a chance to improve and get stronger. Angus’ communication skills with me as a client are amazing; setting good expectations as a client/PT, communicating around running late, the feedback forms, talking about the exercises I'm doing as well as just being able to have a laugh between sets. I find that we strike a really good balance as a PT/client but also respecting each other as acquaintances/human beings, without overstepping. And that works really well for me. In short, Angus is worth every dollar that I've spent on our time working together, and I'm hoping for many more years to come.
My main goals when I started working with Angus were to build strength and improve knee pain. The top 3 things I learnt were: Technique for a range of machines and movements, stretching exercises, intensity and pacing guidance, good reinforcement on nutrition. I also improved my muscle strength, sense of greater control over my body, and reduced knee pain. Initially, I had reservations around cost, and engaging in something onerous and unsustainable. Angus was able to help me through my reservations and I felt I got good value with workout plans, a focus on empowering me to drive my fitness, and lots of tools offered like tracking food. Whilst tracking food is not something I do, the process has definitely reinforced my internal discipline. I like that Angus encourages but is also respectful of the other factors that influence exercise habits. There’s no shame, just a chilled positive energy. I really enjoyed that. Angus has really helped me build my fitness by empowering me with the knowledge and habits to drive it myself. I have become stronger and more in control of my fitness, which transfers to other parts of my life. His relaxed, encouraging and positive attitude is really constructive.
I wanted to start training again after pregnancy and a traumatic c-section and I am getting married in February next year... I wanted to feel stronger and start losing some weight. I learned that I am stronger than I think (I can hold the plank for longer!!) What I improved the most was honestly, just going to the gym and gaining back the confidence in my own body being ready to do so. I have gained the ability to believe that I CAN do it :) I struggled with knowing where to start, it felt way too big and daunting, and now I love going on my own and it’s again become a happy place for me. All thanks to Angus pushing me and showing me that I CAN :) Angus showed great patience and understanding, and I feel very grateful for him taking the time to train me and getting me back in the Gym. Especially valuable for me since I am coming from such a vulnerable stage in my life with the recovery of my c-section and just being a new mum with no sleep.

My goals when first starting coaching with Angus were to get confident in the gym, learn how to use the equipment, and perform exercises with correct form. I learnt how to do compound lifts which I would have been too scared to attempt on my own and removing the fear around certain machines / equipment! I also learnt about progressive overload and the importance of increasing weights or reps to ensure progress. Angus also taught me the importance of prioritising protein and fibre and how important it is for recovery and feeling full. Also, thinking I was eating enough but actually needing to increase this further. I now think about diet and strength training as more of a lifestyle and an ongoing focus to keep working on rather than a short term thing! I’ve successfully moved away from some of my all or nothing thinking and have been able to remain consistent for a number of months now, simply continuing on when needed rather than giving up after going ‘off track’. It’s been great working with Angus, and I'm looking forward to some more sessions next year and to keep progressing in my fitness journey ☺️
My goals when starting out personal training with Angus were to lose 10kg & re-comp some muscle. Additionally I have discovered mobility issues that I want to fix. The increase in mobility has been groundbreaking. Both feeling more flexible in my shoulders, and having a big reduction of tightness in my back and massively increased workload capacity. Going to the gym is now a lot easier. Angus has a drive to learn more and help with issues related to mobility, which was excellent and resulted in working towards fixing the issues. He took the time to give me accurate answers if he didn't have all the information right away. I am very satisfied from a perspective of focusing on mobility, getting the movement right. I'd definitely recommend Angus to people starting out or have a history of injury starting again.
